Medication-assisted treatment is the standard of care for opioid and alcohol use disorders. It reduces overdose deaths by 50 percent or more.

The three FDA-approved medications

Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Sublocade, Zubsolv) — office-based, widely available in NJ.
Methadone — dispensed daily at licensed OTPs.
Naltrexone (Vivitrol) — monthly injection; also used for alcohol use disorder.

Telemedicine access

New Jersey permits buprenorphine initiation by telehealth. Several statewide providers offer same-week induction.
